Sports and leisure in Vienna

Free guided walks and cycle tours explore Vienna’s changing housing, public spaces, green areas and transport. Each tour has its own meeting point and duration. The calendar lists the remaining published dates for the season. Registration through the city’s booking calendar is required.

Run & Roast starts a beginner-friendly 5 km community run at 5:30 pm on 30 September from EVO Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof to EVO Praterstraße. The announced pace is around 6:30 to 7 minutes per kilometre. Registration through the organiser’s page is required; check it for current participation terms.

Vienna Running Collective meets every Friday at 7 am at kilometre zero of Prater Hauptallee by Praterstern for a fartlek session. Drills start at 6:45 am; there is no sign-up or membership fee. The October dates follow the published weekly schedule. The map pin marks the entrance to the avenue as a guide; confirm the meeting spot with the group.

Sports clubs from Penzing, Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus and Ottakring meet at the Red Star Penzing sports ground. Children and parents can explore and try activities including football, martial arts, diving and disc golf.

GOTA Running Club meets at 9 am on Sundays at GOTA Coffee Experts, Mariahilfer Straße 192. Two groups run towards Schönbrunn and back at approximately 7 or 5 minutes per kilometre. Optional breakfast follows, with limited places. The October dates follow the club’s published weekly Sunday schedule; check the current club calendar before heading out.

Founders Running Club meets at 10 am on Sundays at Brenner in Superbude Prater for a social 5 km run. October meetups are listed for the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th; check the current Meetup listing before going.

The 15th Animal Welfare Run takes place on Prater Hauptallee at Meiereistraße. Bib collection starts at 10 am, the free children’s short run at 11:30 am, the school run at noon, and the 5 and 10 km main races at 1:30 pm. Registration and late entry are available for the main races.

RunTogetherNow holds a free, open running session in the Prater on Mondays at 5:30 pm. Meet at Rustenschacherallee 3–5. New runners are explicitly welcome.

Social Run Club meets at 6 pm at the 25hours Hotel. After check-in, a social run of about 5 km around the Ring starts at 6:30 pm, followed by a rooftop gathering.

This seven-kilometre community run starts at INTERSPORT Winninger on Mariahilfer Straße and follows a route past MuseumsQuartier, Naschmarkt and Linke Wienzeile to Schönbrunn Palace. A Salomon shoe test and warm-up precede the run, followed by an afterparty with music, drinks and partner goodies at the finish.

“12 Hours LiDo” offers a signposted route of around 50 kilometres through Floridsdorf and Donaustadt. Walkers can join at any of twelve stamp stations and choose their own distance; participation is free and requires no registration.

This guided Donaustadt tour visits urban farming and gardening projects in the 22nd district. It starts at the Naufahrtbrücke bus stop and includes StadtGartl 22, Kleine Stadt Farm and WeltTellerFeld; places are limited.

The 20th Run for Cancer Research raises funds for MedUni Wien through laps around the Old General Hospital campus. The event runs from 10 am to 2 pm; organisers recommend a minimum donation of €30.

On the “Abenteuer Seestadt” family trail, children up to ten follow clues left by Shelly the mussel around the neighbourhood. The free tour starts at Jugendzentrum Seestadt; places are limited and email registration is required.

Fit for Brain Run starts at 2 pm on 17 October on Prater Hauptallee by Stadionbad. The 5 and 10 km distances are open to runners and walkers, with entry fees supporting stroke care. Online entry closes on 15 October at noon; in-person entry is also available on race day from 11 am to 1 pm. The map pin marks Stadionbad; the start is on the avenue outside.

Vienna Trail Run starts at Cobenzl on 18 October with 7.5, 16 and 24.7 km routes. The races start at 9:00, 9:30 and 10:20 am. All three distances are sold out according to the organiser.

The Erste Bank Open is an ATP tennis tournament at the Wiener Stadthalle, where international top players compete against each other over several days. The tournament includes qualifying rounds and main rounds and is conducted in a clearly structured sports format with an accompanying program.

Wienläuft hosts 3, 6, 9 and 12 km runs at Spenadlwiese on Austria’s national holiday. The programme runs from 9 am to 2 pm and includes children’s races.

Vienna Halloween Run turns the Prater Hauptallee into a spooky course with children’s races and 2.5 and 5 km runs. Bib collection at Praterzelt opens at 3:30 pm; the first race starts later.
